Help me figure out the problem with this car...
Re: Help me figure out the problem with this car...
A guy in my car club has cc306/stock heads, and with a vig 2800 and a built tranny he has done as well as a 1.69 60'. I would say definitely go with the vig 2800, or the 3200 if you plan to do heads eventually.

Just throwing my .02 in here. I have a Midwest converter from www.hpaparts.com and i've cut a 1.7 60' with it. 3000 stall 2.5 str - it hits pretty hard and so far i'm extremely happy with it.
Re: Help me figure out the problem with this car...
I'm going to take the car to a chassis shop and have them take a look at it. If they consider it fixable, then I will throw a stall in it. Otherwise, I'll dump the body in a lake and get another one that will work.
How much did the Midwest stall run you by the way?

Re: Help me figure out the problem with this car...
I got it for $489 shipped to my door. The only thing I didn't do was take the upgrade for nitrous - $100 but I didn't think that i'd run the bottle at the time. Foolish.
It has the same warranty as the 2 'other' guys. 2 year with 2 free re-stalls.
Also, the guy that builds these (Not John at hpaparts) claims to supply one of the 'other' guys with parts. Contact John he'll explain it, that's what I remember though.

Re: Help me figure out the problem with this car...
Midwest, unless they have changed recently, arent a true 9 inch convertor. they use a true 9 inch backhalf, welded to a stock 11 or 12 inch front half, leaving many parts stock in the process.

Lots of info there, somewhat biased b/c its written by Precision (make vig), but none the less, its not all propaganda.

Re: Help me figure out the problem with this car...
Correct, I think it's actually a 10.5" unit? It gets rave reviews on ls1.com, I bought it mainly because it was roughly $300 cheaper. I know your supposed to buy the best but for my goals (emissions legal 12's) I think the PI and Vig was overkill and the money saved was spent on other items.
From what I hear though - PI and Vig are the way to go if you can ante up the coin for it. Can't go wrong with either of those units, and for my goals the Midwest has fit the bill so far.
