Head/intake swap... remove fluids??

Is it necessary to drain any fluids for a head/intake, no cam swap?

The coolant needs draining.

Thanks, is that all? The only reason I ask is because fluids are the only issue I have with working on my car at home since it tends to get messy sometimes especially if I screw up and spill something.

Yep, only the coolant. However if you drain it using only the radiator drain, the coolant will only drain as far down as the water pump ports leaving quite a bit in the block which will spill as you remove the lower head bolts and the heads. Also drain the block using the block drains. On an LT1, these will be the knock sensor on the right side and a corresponding plug on the driver's side.

And if you want both banks drained then you must pull both plugs.
I'm just lazy though. I have a drip pan (almost covers the entire area of the engine) and just let the coolant drain from removing the head bolts.
