Got my LE1 heads and boy am I happy.
Not to throw fuel on the fire, but emissions aside, both cams (306 or 847) will work great. They are both tried and true grinds with repeatable results on given applications. To say a comparible custom cam will make huge improvements over either of these is a stretch at best. Set up the engine and valve train correctly, pay attention to every detail, and pay to have a quality dyno tune done (not just at wot), and you'll get good results.

You will definitely not mistake this cam for stock, unless you had the cam ground with an LSA of around 115-116 degrees, or you increase the idle speed.
From what I have read, if you were really looking for "tamer sounding" (sleeper) cams.....do a search for the "Cadillac Cam", SpeedInc makes it. Crane and LPE also make a couple of stockish sounding cams that make good power.
Edit: I see you've already looked into the "Cadillac Cam".
Well I went CC502. I had a CC501 but decided to upgrade. Almost tried for a CC503 but I didn't want to push it. I like the idea of the cam being tame enough that you cant really hear it at idle.
You'll still hear this cam, still hit's and is a very good cam. I ran 12.4's with this cam, cam only...

Well I have mixed feeling about emissions. I have "friends" but one of them could lose his job or quit at anytime without giving a damn if I have an inspection sticker.
I have Crane 10308 springs so I wanna stay within the limits of them. I'm considering the CC306 because of the power band.... I just like it. The GM847 is the sickest sounding cam. If I decide to stay tamer with it .... I'm going to sell the CC502 and get a 503 or 306. I have a little time to make up my mind.

Since you have OBDII you don't have to pass a sniffer test. Just fab up a cat/converter Y-pipe if you're worried about visual inspection. As long as your PCM is tuned accordingly you should be golden. You are allowed so many "not ready" tests when doing emissions. Your friend should be able to tell you or you can study up on it if this is really worth it.

Not sure if he's still in business. He's costly, but does very good work.
Ya but most places have "Bubba" working the tools and all he cares about is the read out. I went to a place in Arlington where the guy inspecting my car looked EXACTLY like Osama Bin Laden. Even had the head dress on. He didn't do anything to my car except drive it up on the rollers, plug it in, and put the sticker on. Didn't check anything else. My tires were shot, no cats, high beams wouldn't turn on, and I know there had to be something else it would have failed for. haha
