GMHTP is a great mag. Great bathroom reading. I have a LT1 and i would like to see more lt1 tech.
Other than gmhtp what mag covers more chevy modern thunder?
There is not much for options.

Down w/gm high tech

Glad to see you LT1 owners are speaking up about lack of LT1 coverage in the mag.Another ex. of not finishing a project car was the Grapes Of Wrath;they could have done more free mods, tuning, etc. They left us hung out to dry and as well on other LT1 builds have spent too much on some mods(replacing parts randomnly!)whereas they used parts that did very little, but obviously where trying to hype the manufacturer. Also they haven,t had any tips on buildups of 5.3 Grand Prix GXP,and the last time i seen a hop-up of 97-03 GTP was way back in a issue from 1999 Even the newest issue again has no info. on the 94 Formula project and the best budget bolt on story is just a reprint from a Mar06 issue.

Thing is most lsx owners were LT1 owners also in the past...Both cars can be had for not much at all nowadays and the LS1 is a far superior engine. Kinda like a been there done that type of thing.

The staff from that magazine could never put together an LT1 that was respectably fast (even when Hunkins worked there), so I can see why they don't bother. Even the yellow stroker Firebird they put together could barely get out of the 12's when they had it.

I had a subscription 5 or 6 years ago. I think my favorite part of that mag was honestly the Evan Smith drag-test articles of factory stock cars. Everything else in there was essentially just whoring out to whatever shop gave them the most money or free parts, like Agostino Racing or MTI.
You just don't get the same kind or quality of technical information in that mag as you do on websites like this one.

If currents mags only focused on the current/most recent engines out there, those mags would be pretty boring wouldn't they?

Look at the Ford/Mustang mags, sure the 302 is ancient by now but they still talk about it. If people are still interested in making a certain car/engine faster then there should be some coverage about it.

That car was built as more of an autocross car, IIRC. Still, you'd think they'd do better than that what they did with a 396 (granted, they ran a Hotcam).

I have a subscription and love it, but it does seem like they redo the same builds over and over again. As for them whoring out to shops, it's true. Remember how great they said that Nutek was and it went under. My buddy had a Nutek build 383 and first the head too a dump and had to be rebuild (out of my friends pocket) and then the bottom end took a dump and he gave up on the car.

I realize that im just pointing out that most of the guys that owned LT1's eventually moved on to LS1's...The fbody crowd nowadays is mostly lsx..From what Ive seen here in the past few years and on the road the LT1 crowd is mostly newer drivers because for a few grand you can get a heck of a performer. The 5.0 was also the most popular muscle car ever, the Lt1 wasnt and up until a few years ago performance wise it wasnt worth it to upgrade from the 5.0 (except for the much more expensive 4v). Besides the front grill the LT1/LS1 visually was the same car and for the few grand differance in price you cant beat the LS1 upgrade...The fox body was an entirely different look from the sn95/new edge look.

I agree. I dropped my subscription to it as well once it went mostly LSX. I may fiddle in the magazine section of a store and peruse through GMHTP once in a while to see if anything is worth while, 99% of the time is nothing that applies to me and my LT1. I wouldnt mind them also covering other GM cars like the GTP, Cobalt, maybe some trucks even.

There are still alot of LT1's out there and thats a sizeable slice of readers out there, as evidenced by a number of us who have dropped our subscriptions when we were tossed aside. And even when GMHTP was at its best, you could get through the magazine in one toilet sitting.

I really envy the Ford crowd when it comes to magazines. If we had a magazine like MM&FF life would be great. Tons of tech and a good read. Occasionally I buy one of those even though I dont own a Ford just for the good articles. Hell its 3 times the size of GMHTP. And yes, Evan Smith was the bomb!

I like the Hockey in Sports illustrated comparison. Kinda like Hockey in Texas in general

Id agree the magazine was always a fast read with alot of adds even in the LT1 days. If i had a quarter for everytime I saw that Hpp dyno test add w/ that 97 6spd Id be a millionaire And I always questioned there almost all the time better then average 1/4 mile tests. As for the ford crowd id be the first to admit I stopped buying the MM&FF's mainly because I was tired of reading about the fox body/5.0 articles...I personally prefer more modular articles, not sure if its because there newer cars or not. After 20-25 yrs i was just tired of the same ol 5.0 articles, the same stuff has been written a million times..Not sure if others are like me and maybe that has something to do w/ the abundance of lsx articles because its the most recent/popular platform.

They should do write ups on how to go to better ignitions. I would like to see a write up on how to change the opti ignition into a delteq, or LTCC setup.

they should also do a turbo build up, supercharger bolt on, new heads cam build ups, they do this at MM&FF on the ol 5.0 so why not do it on one of these motors?

there is still a big following for these motors they are super cheap and that parts arent the bad..

im going to post ***** now. Rick Jensen here is your LT1 feature car!! hahaha LINK TO THE PICS

I honestly see less and less LT1s everyday...If I do its obviously by the looks or sound of the car not driven by an enthusiast. The track usually gives you a good idea of what people are driving. My last few times out it looked like a LSx meeting(and Im talking the first couple years the lsx came out). LT1 guys were jumping ship left and right as soon as the newer cars were turning damn near 12's and trapping atleast 5 mph more in stock or close to stock form. The cars are very similiarly priced, and im not sure about anyone else but Id grab a 98 over a 96-97 for a same/similar price everyday. The magazine spends alot of time @ etown and other local tracks and they see whats popular. If you wanted to sell mags and saw a ton more LS1s there what would you write about. Id take either platform in a second just trying to give some insight on where I think the mags comming from. How many l98 bolt on write ups do you still see...probably none because the bolt on performance of that engine isnt impressive these days. Just evolution, soon as the 5th gens come out you'll start to see the LSx crowds get smaller and smaller because the enthusiasts will want the newer/better model.

NICE CAR Ramair96!!!!!!!

What amazes me is this, GMHTP has a HUGE base of cars to choose from on this board ALONE, not to mention LS1tech. All they have to do is a SMALL amount of browsing around. Most everyone has a contact e mail on these boards. There are some VERY nice VERY well thought out and executed cars on this board....why dont they use these boards as resources?

Just on this board alone guys have taken the LT1 WAY farther than anything that has been put in that mag With the exception on Brady and the purple twin turbo Lt1 out of La.

The LT1 is still a very well loved platform, whether it is the "latest and greatest" or not.

GMHTP puts more Grand National coverage in the mag than LT1 and that car is 20 years old! And only made in EFI for 2 years!

GMHTP did do an article on installing a delteq. I don't remember which issue it was, but they did.
