GM guideplate questions

I am installing GM guideplates on my LE2 buildup (with Comp ProMag 1.6 RRs) and was wondering if it was ok to use a file on the bottom of the pushrod slot to gain a bit more clearance.

When I checked the geometry with the Comp push rod checker, it was scraping on the bottom of the pushrod slot in the guideplate. It seemed I was able to gain a bit more clearance by loosening the rocker studs and moving the guideplate as far toward the exhaust ports as possible but I have not yet received my new Comp Hi-tech pushrods so I haven't tested this set-up yet for clearance.

It also seems like it would be a good idea to de-burr the side edges of the pushrod slot (obviously only the edges so as not to alter the actual width of the pushrod slot).

Does this sound resonable to you folks or should I be doing something else?

Thanks for the input.

People have done this many times in the past for big cams.
De-burring cant hurt either.

The big problem I have had with these plates is the fact they are not case hardened.

At least some of them apparently were not...

Some were, some were not (or not well enough).

If you can cut into these plates with a file I wouldn't
use them.
Moving the plates outward should be enough to clear
pushrods.
