Fuel pump dieing or opti?

My 95 T/A has a high RPM stumble sometimes. It seems pretty much random. Basically when i go WOT sometimes around 4500 or so itll fall on its face and stop accelerating and youll here a loud POP POP POP sounds lie its in the exaust, i have stock manifolds cat and just a flowmaster muffler not the whole catback.

Now this seems like when my old t-bird had a dieing fuel pump. But with all this funy optispark buisness i dont want to waste $ on a pump if i dont need one now?? I dont have a fuel press gauge i can use right now, any other way to check or symptoms to be looking for? I also have a problem that has only occured 3 times in the last 3-4 months i owned the car where if im at a stand still in gear and hit the throttle hard itll just make a "pop" and not accelerate just like the high RPM miss. Its very rare that that happens, but if that happened at the wrong time it could get me in an accident so i need to fix this. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Sounds similar to the problem i've been having, mine backfire like that through the exhaust. I just changed the plug wires on mine but haven't tried it out to see if that fixed it or not, and I know it's not my fuel pump because I hear it when I switch on the ignition. How old are your plug wires, maybe you should check those as well.

Sounds like you are going lean. Maybe think about the fuel filter if has been awhile and check the fuel pressure.
