My car decided to die on my yesterday running about 2300 rpm it just quit and stalled like it ran out of gas. I sat on the side of the road for a couple seconds, tried to start it because the gas guage was in the middle, starts runs for a lil then quits. I made it to my friends house and left the car sitting for about an hour, it starts fine again makes it about a mile and cuts out again. Get a tow truck get it home, drive it around the block and it runs fine, but for how long i dont know i havent taken it out on a long enough drive to see if it will crap out.

Car is a 96 SS 6-speed with about 70k, also how hard is it to drop the tank to change the pump?

you need to run it untill it will not start again. You need to recreat the no start in order to fix it. Once you have it there you need to see if your lacking spark or fuel.
