Fuel Problem

Ok, finally hooked a mechanical FP gauge up to my car, and heres what the POS is doing. When the pump is priming, and idling, it stayt right around 40 psi, maybe high 30's. Under normal driving, light load, the pressure still stays right around the same, 40 psi. Once I put about half throttle on the car, it drops to low 20's, and at WOT the is at 0-1 psi. The more the accelerator is depressed, the more the pressure drops, eventually there is basically no fuel, but the car won't completely stall out. So, is it time for a new pump? I am not thinking its the fuel filter because its pretty new, probably less than 10k miles, so it must be the pump or regulator right?

Re: Fuel Problem

I am willing to bet the pump is trashed and cant keep up with the demands of the RPM's. Peace, Dustin.

Re: Fuel Problem

I thought it was most likely the pump, but I also found it wierd that it would have normal pressure at idle and under light throttle

Re: Fuel Problem

Any chance it could be the regulator? I just don't want to start installing new parts, and that one not be the fix. The only reason I question the regulator is because usually when a fuel pump is dying, it just dies, and I have had these symptoms for a few months, but its the first time I was able to hook up a mechanical FP gauge. Thanks again

Re: Fuel Problem

It's been my experience that fuel pumps usually do die slowly. I was experiencing the same symptoms you are, and a new Racetronix pump fixed it right up. I was getting ~40 PSI KOEO, ~35 PSI at cruise, and ~30 PSI at WOT. With the new pump I'm getting ~40 PSI at idle, ~45 PSI at WOT, and ~90 PSI when spraying(dry kit). I'd say a new pump will fix you right up. i used the trap door method and it took maybe an hour.

Re: Fuel Problem

thanks for the info, I too am going to do the trap door method. I bought the holley 255 pump though, but it should be the same as the walbro.
