Fuel Line disassemble - Whats the trick?
Fuel Line disassemble - Whats the trick?
Having some trouble seperating the fuel lines at the rear of the intake manifold. I have a set of (4) seperation tools that I got from AutoZone. They dont work very well. Me and my pops didnt have any luck with it. Is there a trick or another tool that make this easier? The set of quick disconnect tools that i got from Autozone has four plastic disconnectors...red white blue black. I forgot which color is the closest but we couldnt get any of them to work. Any pointers?

The feed is 3/8", and the return is 5/16", so use the appropriate size tools. Insert them into the black fitting around each respective line, and push in. It will bottom out, but then push again and it will pop the fitting off. It's easy once you get it the first time and understand how it "feels" to disconnect them.

"RamAir95TA" has good advice ... get the technique to work once and you'll understand. DON'T use a lot of force trying to pull and yank at the fittings or you may bend the fitting's internal spring clips and they may weep a little fuel when you reassemble the lines! (don't ask me how I know !!!)
Good Luck

First of all, you have to relieve the pressure in the fuel system by depressing the schrader valve, then you should be able to push the fuel line together a bit then try the tool, and when you reassemble, use a little oil or something to make it go back together again without damaging the o rings in there.

Re: Fuel Line disassemble - Whats the trick?
I had the same problem disconnecting mine a month ago. I bought the cheap plastic tools but they aren't stout enough to depress those springs inside the fittings. While you think it may be working, it's doing nothing. Go ahead and get the metal tool, it's under $10 at autozone. As soon as I got the metal tool I had the lines off within a minute. I fought with the plastic tools for over an hour before I got frustrated enough to buy the correct tool.

Awsome. I knew there had to be a metal tool available. Those plastic tools are not worth the time or money. Looks like Im headed to the parts store today. Thanks guys.
