Follow up on LT1 Starters. Which one?

I'm undecided on which starter I need to get. After doing a little search here, looks like the CVR and the LT4 are the front-runners.
Basically, I'm looking for one that won't be a hassle to install, like grinding stuff off, shimming, etc... I want one that is reliable, and trouble free. What do you guys recommend, who has what?
Thx-Goose

I spent a day trying to track down availability and options for LT4 starters (153 tooth Nipendeso Style-High Torque, Straight Bolt Pattern) and found the following:

GM New AC Delco # 10455709 $304.02
Autozone Duralast #17123 $210.99 (exchange)
Pep-Boys Pro-Start #17124 $169.99(exchange)
Napa Nipendeso #17579 $199.99 (exchange)
Summit Power Master #9202 $199.99 (need wire mod?)

* note: some places may not accept your LT1 starter as exchange on an LT4 type (they won't look the same) clerk ignornace will work to your benefit.

I did not check Sam Taylor prices, that may be the best bet.

MY LT4 starter was $158 shipped from Sam Taylor (haven't got around to installing it yet - I have bigger problems).

This may be a dumb question but I'm learning here...

I've been thinking of replacing my stock LT1 starter...will the LT4 starter work perfectly on my stock LT1...

Thanks,
T....

Correct, there are no modifications required to install the LT4 starter.

There could be some interference with the lt4 starter and shorty headers..
My starter rubbed against on the the tubes on my Mac Headers.. A little grinding and the problem went away..

What is the point to goto a LT4 starter over a stock LT1 starter?

If you guys are looking to save money just use a S10 starter 49.95 at checker

It's not about saving money. The LT 4 unit is a "heavy duty" unit when compared to the LT 1 unit.

Heck, just doing a side by side look gives one the impression the LT 4 unit will last forever.
