Failed emissions today..

So i basically drive the camaro once every other month now that i live and work in the city. The car sits at home in Bartlett and it was due for emissions. I drove it for about 30 min ( also on the way to the test got a speeding ticket and a ticket for not a valid insurance card) and then took the test. I failed the HC- Hydrocarbons by plenty. I think the standard was .80. Mine read 2.50....

i was told that its basiaclly unburnt fuel. Would running and driving the car do anything to make my HC that much lower in order to pass?

A hot cat will help you pass. Typical things to put your best foot forward is a good tune (fresh spark plugs, wires, clean air filter, fuel filter), fresh oil change, O2 sensors if yours have been abused or greater than 50K miles on them. How many miles on the car?

Re: Failed emissions today..

well, you better just give up and sell the car to my brother for dirt cheap since he's looking for a LT1.

On a more serious note, try getting some injector cleaner and running that through, Replace your spark plugs. Anything that will help your fuel system, do it.

Re: Failed emissions today..

I'm failing on HC too. I have a friend who was failing on HC and couldn't figure out why. It turns out that the charcoal canister was leaking and needed to be replaced. What was happening was that the unburnt fuel was leaking out and getting sucked into the machine causing high HC.
