Electric Pump able for DD?

Just wondering if it is cool to use a electric pump on a daily driven lt1?

I would think it would be fine, but you would want to use the heavy duty unit. I've also seen a link that shows how to wire up a warning light if current stops (circuit broken) for some reason. Maybe someone will have the link. I would highly recommend this warning light on a daily driver.

I like the stock mechanical pump for a DD. The added complexity of the electric pump needed circuitry and sudden stoppage (if you have a problem) can be an issue when you have daily driving distractions or simply cannot get off the road safely in traffic. The cost of blown head gaskets from a sever overheating occurance will far supercede the cost of an electric pump.

Peace of mind can be priceless. I won't argue that.

And more importantly - Is it your only DD?? If so forget it and go buy a Saturn!

Some people have problems with EWP's, I personally ran mine for a couple of years as a DD. I have never had my EWP fail. (thanks to me saying that it will now)! I no longer DD mine but I do still take it out on the weekends and I don't worry about the water pump. I am one who CONSTANTLY watches my gauges though. If you want a EWP just put one on there and look for a used one in the for sale section of the boards. You can find one cheap ($75ish) and carry it in the car with you for a back-up. It's VERY easy to change out once you have converted the housing over. JMO

Personally, I would be nervous to put that much trust into a vital component that is driven electrically. That is not saying there aren't people running them on their DDs, but you will want to make sure you are keeping your eye on the temp gauge from time to time. I remember awhile back there was someone on the Impala forums selling some sort of "watchdog" system that gives off an audible alert once there is trouble detected in the electrical circuit basically giving you warning to pull over and shut the car off.

I do have a beater car, but it is for work (gas mileage), wouldnt use it if im going more than 15 miles though at a time lol. Yea, I was thinking of buying a water pressure guage then hooking some kind of system on it to blink a light if it drops bellow a certain pressure. I am a freq. gauge checker so i think ill be find if i cant find something to warn me.

I have a Meziere EWP on my DD and I love it. As long as you have a warning system then you should be fine.

I've had a Meziere HD unit in my car for 7 years and it was a DD for 4 years.
