Pre electric fuel pump "screen"?

Pre electric fuel pump "screen"?
Working on a street rod with a Z28 LT1 transplant. Installing an inline pump along the frame, the 37 Chevy fuel tank does not have a tank screen (sock) and was designed for a low pressure mechanical fuel pump and inline fuel filter.
My choices are:
1) running the inline filter before the electric pump -or-
2) installing an inline screen before the pump and filter after the pump
#1 is the easiest and #2 requires an inline screen (having trouble locating one)...plus really don't want the frame cluttered up with filters, fitting etc.
Any suggestions?
Moderator..can you move this to the correct category? Sorry.

Re: Pre electric fuel pump "screen"?
You need a pre-filter specifically for the suction side of the pump, not the filter that is normally used on the discharge side. The normal fuel filter can cause an obstruction to flow on the inlet side, because it is typically too fine - ~10 microns.
This page has a guide to the recommended inlet size filter micron size (25 - 100 microns), for specific fuel pump manufacturers (look under the Monster Mesh product description).
pg 49
When I added a second pump off the bottom/rear of the stock 4th Gen tank, they put a screen of some sort in the tank.

Re: Pre electric fuel pump "screen"?
Thanks Fred
The reproduction tanks for these old cars don't allow for the installation of socks, filters etc...
On my 33 Chevy with TPI I have a fuel cell and plumbed in a pre filter, pump and GM filter..works fine. It's a lot of hardware..probably will install a pre-filter right at the tank, then pump on the frame with filter after it.
Thanks again
