Motor Balancing

I'm building a 383 and i was wanting to know everything that needs to be balanced. I know the rotating assembly needs to be internally balanced which is going to be done but what else do needs to be balanced. I've been trying to research it but i cant seem to find a straight answer. Also this is a M6 car.

Nothing, except if you have a neutral (internal) balance rotating assembly you also need a zero/neutral harmonic damper and flywheel/flexplate.

I'm a little confused about the flexplate. Since its a wear item how do you make sure when you go to replace it that the new one is zero balanced as well?

An internally balanced rotating assembly means everything inside the block is balanced by itself, with no help from anything else. The stock LT1 is externally balanced in the rear, meaning there are weights on the flywheel/flexplate to balance the rotating assembly. Since your new motor is internally balanced, you will need a neutrally balanced flywheel, meaning no offset weights. A machine shop should be able to neutral balance your stock flywheel, or you can get an aftermarket flywheel that is already neutrally balanced. To make sure your new one is neutral, just call up whoever makes it and ask them.
