Post Had it with electric water pumps!

I finally get my M6 to 4L60E transplant done at 6:00 Wednesday for a car show at work on Thursday. In addition to going through the trans I ending up going through engine, and axle too. Seeing how the entire driveline was apart I figured I should put some miles on the car before I make the 33 mile trip to work. I get 3 miles away from my house and overheat the engine. Sure enough my CSI electric water pump took a dump. This pump was installed early spring and has less than 100 miles on it. I was able to do only slightly better with the previous pump (a Meziere). At least the Meziere lasted two years of very limited driving.

Im a little ticked off!

Am I the only one with this experience? I think I'm switching back the gear driven pump. I'll take my chances with a broken timing chain.

B.T.W. I modified my timing cover for a Pete Jackson gear drive, so I'm in the market for a 95-97 timing cover, water pump, and drive gear.

brian, sorry to hear your frustration with the pump, i hae maybe 2000 miles on mine, so far it is ok (quickly touching wood).

also got the lockout from kevin, thanks again, i plan on installing it this week. i was gonna go racing today, but decided not to, weather is $hit and i didn't feel like driving almost 4hrs to thenearest track that i could make 5 or 6 passes at. too many events this weekend

i'll let you know how it goes.

Brian, keep us updated on your progress with the new 4L60E. I'm interested in how well it's gonna hold up. I hope you put a tranny cooler on it. Good luck on the pump.

Thanks,

For as long as the water pump lasted, the 4L60E worked great. I'm running two super coolers. Even though I overheated the engine, the trans barely got over 140. Yeah, I'm kind of interested to see how long it will last too!

You must have some electrical issues! I have run my Mez for 2+ years (drag racing) with no problems!

Thanks Mike,

I had a post on the for sale section. I ended up geting the cover, pump, and drive gear all from the same guy.

Redbird,
Possibly was an electrical issue. I'm woundering if it was a heat problem? I had a custom aluminum fan shrowd that put both fans at the bottom of the radiator. The shroud blocked off any air from hiting the pump. Thinking about it, the pump didn't last very long after I installed the trans coolers.
Hmmm!!!!

I hope your Mez keeps pumpin, but when I say I got 2 years of limited driving out of it I meant (drag racing)!
