Does synthetic oil cause lower oil pressure?

I recently switched from Penzoil dino 5w30 to Mobil1 synthetic 5w30 and I have clearly less oil pressure now. I would speculate maybe 5# less at idle and 10# everywhere else. Is this normal?

Interested

I can't add anything here to help, but I am experiencing something like this on another car I have. Would like to hear opinions...

Red face oil ?

so u fellas are talking about oil i have a ? im using mobile 1 10W30, i live in las vegas last year i had experieced oil pressure problems my gauge droped to 0 and wrecked my engine.

but that was due to the oil drive gear stripping!!

anyways wat kind of oil should i use during the summer it gets to 115 to 120 here in las vegas.thank u

I noticed lower oil pressure when I used Mobile One and I was using 15w-50. I switched to Castrol synthetic and noticed the pressures went back up.

Synthetic is thinner. Basic chemistry... thinner viscosity, lower pressure

Ummmmm..... viscosity is viscosity. A "30" weight (looking only at the high temperature portion of the diesignation) oil must have a viscosity that falls into the range specified by SAE. Because is it a range, some "30" weight oils can be slightly thicker (more viscous) or thinner (less viscous) that another "30" weight oil. Checking the manufacturers tech data sheets for the Pennzoil conventional and the Mobil 1 synthetic, the Mobil 1 has a lightly higher viscosity than the Pennzoil, so that theory goes out the window.

Yeah I saw that too. Somehow the M1 has reduced my pressure. I am going to put some Penzoil conventional back in to recheck. Its not dangerously low, I just dont like the reduced pressure.
