does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
My car has to spin for about 5 seconds to start. However, my car is getting plenty of fuel pressure.(I have a gauge under te hood on the that runs to the nitrous solinoids). My car simple does not fire for the first 5 seconds it turns over. It then fires and cranks. It runs perfect after that. If I turn it off and crank it right back up it cranks fine. If i let it sit for about 5 minutes than it takes about 5 seconds to start again. I know for sure that it is not firing for 5 seconds because I,ve put a spark plug light on it. I have a new optispark and a new coil. So whats causing the problem.
Re: does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
make sure your coolant temp sensor is in/working. mine came disconnected. what it does is at startup, it will read that the coolant is cold so it will give additional fuel to help "prime" it kind of. without it connected it only gives enough to run regularly.
Re: does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
it seem sto be getting plenty of fuel. Most of the time the cylinders are so loaded with fuel by the time it fires that it blows a flame out the tail pipe and rattles the windows of my neighbors house. I even had the police come by last week and said he was down the street and heard it and though I was shooting a gun.
Re: does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
When you say "it gets plenty of fuel", when are you measuring it? Are you looking at the fuel pressure while it's idling or after the fuel pump primes before starting? It's a common failure for the check valve in the fuel pump to fail, causing hard starting. This can be seen by observing if the fuel pressure bleeds off quickly after the fuel pump primes (prior to start). Other causes for the fuel pressure dropping are leaky injectors, bad regulatory or a hole in the fuel line.
Re: does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
IF I turn the key on the pressure will go up to around 55 or 60 psi. It will hold this psi for at least an hour if I let it sit there. When it cranks it holds about 40 psi or so. I have a adj. regulator so I can pretty much set this where ever I want. However I know for a fact that the car does not fire for about five seconds of cranking. I believe I know what caused this problem. The old wiring harness from the automatic that was in the car before I put the 6-speed in it cought on something and the coupling got stripped off. The wires then shorted together
Re: does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
I have the same problem but with some other goodies. I don't know if mine doesn't fire, it just has to crank over for the 5 seconds, then does a really slow wind up from 100 RPM to 200 to 300 and takes a second at each hundred. But here's the weird thing. I replaced the fuel filter, and primed it 10 times, still had kind of a slow start up, but wanted to start right away then went back to turning over. But when i re-did the wiring coming from the water pump temp sensor (because the dealer messed with it, argh) it started right up with less then a second turning over and didn't have to slowly wind up. I think my car has a serious illness or something....

Re: does not fire for 5 seconds of turning over
well I know ine has nothing to do with the injectors. So what could make it not fire fore 5 seconds. Once it fires it cranks right up and runs excellent
