Did Some 1997 Camaros Come With The Ls1?
Re: Did Some 1997 Camaros Come With The Ls1?
My son just bought a 97 and dealer told him it has the Ls1 in it. Can you guys tell from the vin of that is correct? All the comments her seem to indicate my son was lied to. Anyway here is the vin: 2G1FP22P6V2133145
Honestly I know nothing about these cars and engines so any help you can offer is much appreciated.

The “V” in position 10 indicates 1997 model year. The “P” in position 8 indicates it had an LT1 engine when it left the factory.

So the question would be is it really an LS1 engine (post a photo of engine - extremely easy to tell them apart), and whether someone did an engine swap (post a photo of the Service Parts Identification label in the glove box - see post #35).
Dealers are not really a reliable source of info…. they could easily not know the difference in engine appearance, or just been blowing smoke to sell the car to someone who also didn’t know the difference.

Re: Did Some 1997 Camaros Come With The Ls1?
Definitely an LT1 engine, just like the one in my 1994 Formula, bought new 27+ years ago. Nice and clean, appears to be basically stock. Shame the dealer had to lie about it.
This is an LS1:

The fuel line bundle on his LT1 is missing a support clip. That can be dangerous, if the heat from the AIR system plumbing melts the plastic encasing the lines, and then the nylon fuel lines. The plastic cover for the throttle cable/quadrant between the fuel line bundle and the throttle body has a hole in the vertical side of it. There should be a plastic support ring pushed into that hole, and the fuel line bundle should be inside the ring to keep it up and off the exhaust components.
The fitting for the AIR system, sticking into the exhaust manifold has a check valve in it. That prevents the exhaust from exiting through the AIR system. If the check valve fails, the rubber elbow next to the fuel line bundle melts and hot exhaust can hit the fuel line bundle where it is now.
The support ring on mine broke off. I got a long black nylon wire tie, pushed the end out through the hole, wrapped it around the fuel line bundle to hold it, pushed the end of the tie back inside the hole and slipped it into the square opening on the other end of the tie. The large end of the tie held it from slipping through the hole in the throttle body cover.

Wow! Thanks for the warning! I will make sure to tell him. Too bad the dealer lied/misinformed him about the Ls1. But really appreciate your help! The last think I want is my son bragging about a rare car that doesn't exist.
