Diameter of Wires?

I know our cars need at least an 8mm wire but what is the deal with getting up to 10.mm on our cars? With the current list I have in my sig what size would I need? In the future I plan on a vortech charger and some 1.6 rockers, maybe a cam later on down the road too. What do you guys suggest?

PS: I am about to order the Delteq kit that's why I am curious.

Re: Diameter of Wires?

Stock GM wires are 7.5mm. I run the Accel 9000 8mm wires and really like them. They will fit in the stock routing looms, stand up great to headers and I've had no igntion issues running them with my Crane ignition box. I've got 50K miles using them on a blown/nitrous injected car. I tried the MSD 8.5mm wires with less success; no need for thicker insulation.

So 8mm is what everyone is basically running with an LT1? I guess that is what I will stick with then. Just didn't really know the point of going bigger.

Re: Diameter of Wires?

The Taylor 409's are 10.4mm diameter, but its just extra insulation. The Taylor SpiroPro 8mm has the same wire inside, just thinner insulation on them. The added insulation might help you prevent burning the wires.

The stock Packard 7mm wires work fine. I run the MSD 8.5's, but I don't use the stock routing or the stock distributor.
