could a faulty fuel filter cause...

1- slight fuel smell
2- fuel pump whining
3- bad gas mileage
4- random ses light
5- slight acceleration hesitation

2-maybe(my was a *little* quieter after replacement)
3-yes
4-no
5-yes(i had a 4500 rpm stumble that dissappeared after new filter)

sounds more you like you have multiple problems? Fuel smell may be the EVAP system and your SES can be anything till you get it scanned

Yes to all but #1 (unless the filter is leaking)

A clogged filter that is so bad can starve the engine of gas, especiall under hard accleration, this can trigger the SES light.

do the basic things first then see what happens, change the fuel filter, air filter, oil, ect ect, if it still acts up get your car scanned for codes at autozone they do it free
