I just caught that too. I wouldn't go lower than .035" on the quench, so the .039" headgasket should be ideal.

Re: Compression ?

Alright guys I really appreciate all the help yall have givin me. Heres what my DCR and SCR will be with the thicker gasket running all the same info but just thicker gasket. Quick question would the DCR increase if "VE" went above 100%? Also would I be safe spraying like a 250shot on this motor?

"With .039 Gasket"

DCR: 8:8:1
SCR: 12:6:1

Re: Compression ?

Eagle 4340 Forged Crank
Eagle H Beam Rods
SRP Flat tops -5cc

I don't see why you would have a problem with a 250 shot, you would most likely want a set of 4 bolt mains, or splayed caps in order to do so. Also you would need to pull timing for the spray, and take other safety precautions but you already knew that i am sure. BTW, nitrous loves compression. Also with that high of SCR, and DCR....make sure you have a good cooling system.

Re: Compression ?

Yea thats another question I was going to ask, whats some ignition boxs yall would recommend looking at for timing? Give me a couple good ones so I can decide which one to get. With some of the boxs isn't it possible for the ignition box to pull the timing itself when the juice is activated?

The box I will be using for spray is the Mallory 685 box, it has alot of options. It has a single stage timing retard, a window switch and I believe it is digital. Its very reasonably priced as well. The only other one that I would consider in that price range is the MSD digital 6, but its more money and has no window switch. Both can be wired up so they pull timing when the spray is activated.

Re: Compression ?

Yea I think Im going to get the Mallory box especially since it has a built in window switch I really like that. Dont you pull timing 2 degrees every 50hp?

Re: Compression ?

Its recomended that you do, but I think thats if you are VERY precautious. Alot of people pull that much after 100 shot, but nothing b4 that.

Re: Compression ?

Speaking of VE... Also, before you finalize your numbers, the following link should put
a dent in your confidence in DCR calcs. It looks at DCR from a very different perspective.

Re: Compression ?

I would talk to SRP before spraying a 250hp shot on those pistons.

I don't consider a .039" quench clearance "ideal" using any stretch of the imagination. As long as he doesn't rev over 8 grand with a real 'rocky' piston, he'd be alright with the .029" quench clearance. No sweat. Ideal? I'd go with .030-.032" as 'ideal'.
