Changing oil: Regular to Synthetic

Changing oil: Regular to Synthetic
The previous owner of my car said he'd put nothing but regular oil in the engine. It's about due in for an oil change, and I'd like to put in some synthetic. Is there anything special I have to do for this? Would it be wise to run a quart of synthetic through after I've initially drained it just to make sure I've cleared out the regular oil or anything? Thanks guys, I've just never had to make this transition before,

this is what ive heard youre SUPPOSED to do. if youre running regular (conventional) oil and wanna switch to a synthetic do it in steps, meaning next oil change run a semi-synthetic/synthetic blend and then maybe the next oil change after that start with a full synthetic. however when i decided that my car deserved a little more i just jumped from one to the other. i used to run valvoline max life, but one day i decided to switch to mobil 1 full synthetic and havent turned back!
be aware that synthetic oils are alot better at cleaning out the engine and consequently can flush out alot of the sludge and **** that could be holding your engine together in the first place, causing major leaks and more problems than you may have started with. but if you feel like your car is together and strong then go ahead and make that transition...your car will thank you for it !
