Car bogs, stumbles, misses, but only when hot.

My car runs like an absoulte champ for about 20 mins and then it hits the fan. It will start to miss and the car will be jerky. If you give it gas it doesnt go anywhere and just backfires and I have to limp home. Wait a while start it up and its fine. Its probably ignition related but does the fact that its only when its been run for a while point more towards one thing like the coil, opti, plugs/wires. I think Im going to change the plugs/wires first and rule out cheaper stuff first, sound like a good idea? Thanks.

Sounds like the sheilding on your spark plug wires are giving out when they get hot. I'd definately start with the plugs and wires, then the coil and the fuel spark module, and then the opti. I'd say your problem is more than likely not the opti. Usually when the opti decides to go out it just craps out all together.

Thanks, I just order plugs and wires. Anyone else have a similar problem?

I'd look at the coil and ignition module.

CHECK YOUR FUEL PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine was like that until I couldn't even start it if it was hot. I was running about 12 lbs of fuel pressure.

When you say that, is it two seperate parts or one? Can get it it/them at autozone?

from the experiance i've had with their parts(there rebuilt stuff), i'd really look into aftermarket or OEM stuff... but i'm pretty sure they have the coil and ummm ignition modual

The coil and ignition module are two separate pieces. Autozone can test these. Take'em off and have Autozone test them, and hope you get an employee who knows how to run the proper test.

Put 2 fat washers behind each coil stud. Heat from the head could be causing the ICM or coil to miss.

Re: Car bogs, stumbles, misses, but only when hot.

I had this exact problem when I got the stroker in my 94... I tryed everything. then one day I was under the car and noticed this gapping hole on the under side of the intake elbow... the plug for the silencer on the under side of the elbow had fallen out, the car ran fine cold cause it doesn't start running lean till the car goes into to operating temp! It's easy to check and you dont expect it and it's an easy fix. just my 2 cents if nothing else seems to work
