Well I had a day off today and got the opti and waterpump put in. I think I have it fixed, I dont want to get my hopes up too soon. Usually the problem would occur after 1300-1500 seconds of running and I just drive for 2500 seconds, turned it off for a minute to get gas and then drove another 1700 seconds with absolutely no misfires or any problems. Time will tell though. Next step is disassembly of old opti.

AWESOME! Very very glad to hear it.

I would be curious to know what shape it's in inside too. I still haven't pulled my old one apart, but I know at the least it has some rust.

So how is it going? Did you get to rip the opti apart yet?

what about timing chain slack-these cars must have atleast 60k+ on them.
Also I am wondering if it is becuase of the newer fuels and bolt on mods that is creating an insufficent spark problem?? (ignition upgrade needed)

I used my snap-on scanner and found everything appears to be in spec

Hey sorry, I looked all day for an E4 inverse torx bit or even a torx screw that I could use to take apart the opti and nobody around carries them! I really want to take it apart though, hopefully soon.

I was finally able to get mine apart. I was able to use one of the screws that holds the plate on the top of the throttle body in place of the E4. I learned it from a previous thread.

Ha! I was on the right path. I actually took out the T15 from the third brake light and tried that but it didnt fit. What did you use to grip it and turn it. I can seem to grip it good enough to turn it without it slipping.

Mine weren't that tight so I was able to grab the very end (threads dont go all the way down) with small vise grips. I think others have also just used two nuts on it as well.
