Can I throw in a 406 smallblock?

I was set on the 383, but I want to go big as I can, long as it s a small block. Can I bore a 346 to a 406 safely?

That raises the question: Can I use a non-lt1 motor in an lt-1 vehicle? Will it not be worth the trouble.

Also, am I going to be able to use the stock fuel injection system on the rebuilt motor or a new motor?

"Can I?" and "should I?" are two different questions.

I've already suggested on your "Advanced Tech" thread that you do a little basic research. When we see you asking about an LT1, and saying 346ci, we already know you haven't done your homework. An LT1 has a 3.48" stroke and a 4.00" bore, for 349.85ci, commonly referred to as a "350". You may be confusing it with the LS1, which has 346ci.

When you talk in another thread about building a 383 with a 3.875" stroke, we know you haven't spent the time to find out that a 383 is generally a 3.750" stroke, with a 4.030" overbore.

Then in another post you ask whether you should use 9.0:1 or 11:1 for best power. The stock LT1 is already 10.4/10.5:1, so there would be little reason to reduce the CR, since lower CR generally means lower HP. The exception would be a supercharged application, where 9.0 or 9.5:1 might be the way to go. But, by following my suggestion and doing some basic research, you could have found that increasing CR generally increases HP.

As far as putting a 406ci SBC in a 93-97 F-Body chassis... yes you can do it, but unless you are a hardcore racer building a track car, it wouldn't make any sense at all. Why not?

-you can build a 409ci LT1... they are avaiable as crate motors.

-with a 406SBC, you will most likely be running a conventional distributor... not easy to fit under the cowl of a 4th Gen F-Body. The ones I have seen had to cut up the cowl, and do away with little features like the windshield wipers. Maybe with a pancake distributor, or going to a front drive ditributor, it would be easier... BUT

-the LT1 PCM requires the optical sensor input from an OptiSpark distributor, and you only get that with a Gen 2 SBC (LT1). There are ways around it, but you might be talking a few thou in aftermarket computer and ignition parts.

So..... I'll offer you the same advice one more time.... do some research. Your questions indicate a lack of understanding the basics. Everyone would like to help you here, but I think you get more serious responses by demonstrating that you have done your homework on the basics.
