Cam install question - Do I need oil?
Cam install question - Do I need oil?
The cam is in and timing cover is all hooked back up. Here is how my engine stands right now. I'm putting in the new springs but have cranked the engine and spun the cam a couple of times between putting the timing chain back on, finding TDC etc. I used 20w-50 oil instead of assembly lube when I put the cam in. As it sits now it does not have any oil in it. The lifters and pushrods are out as you can see and I need to crank the engine to put the piston all the way up in each cylinder so the valves do not drop in while I'm doing the springs. I'm scared to keep turning the engine without any oil in it, so can fill the oil in through the valvetrain and then prime the pump and engine with my tool to make sure the cam and crank bearings are well oiled? Here is where I am right now:
i forgot about the hub when i was filling mine. just started hearing a drip and oil was pouring out the front. you could just pour the oil in the lifter valley but ive always used assy lube on the cam and other internal parts
I used Lucas Oil Stabilizer as cam lube for when i was hand cranking it over all the time. Then I primed my oil pump before starting it and I didnt have any abnormal valvetrain noise when i first started it.
