Callies Or Cola

callies or cola. im building a 355 all forged and i want it to handle 800 hp (for possibly a big shot of spray), and i can get a cola and a dragonslayer (callies) for right at the same price , but is any one of them better than the other. if so why.

from what i read both are good cranks. ive only read about one callies snout breaking off the crank, becuase if blower tension. and im not going that route. so thats not a worry.

thanks for any insight

Re: Callies Or Cola

I went with a Dragonslayer fully forged crank for my 383 that I am going to be seeing about 800-850rwhp with spray.

Re: Callies Or Cola

my engine builder told me that the callies and cola cranks have the oil holes drilled 90* off (or something) and that in short, if you spin it over 6500rpm it starves the bearings for oil. i dont know how correct this is, but the guy builds $100K pro mod engines, and about 12 of my buddies have run his motors for years (some for 10 years) and never had a failure. so i trust him.

How about a callies racemaster crank? 800 horse is a lot, you can't cheap out on parts at that power level, only the best will do.

Re: Callies Or Cola

The oil timing of Cola cranks is unmodified from stock. Cola is also GM's supplier of their forged 3.75" crate engine cranks if that helps. I have spoken to Raul @ Cola on several occasions and he is a cool car guy that builds a great product. Callies also has an excellent reputation, but I have no info to share there.
