Now read this thread all the way through.
Its the high RPMs that makes the rotor fly apart. It is not made to spin over 6,000.
Yes the conversion stops opti failure do too the high votage but not over spinning, People with the conversion are still replacing the opti cap, which houses the rotor.

, but as i said i know a couple of friends with H/C combo on there lt1's and rev up close to 7k with no problems.
Well, this is definitely a good thread. It's answered a couple of my questions, and has saved me from dropping too much $ on a dynaspark, especially when I found out they aren't warrantied for a race application. I'm quite positive my stumbling trouble is stemming from a bad opti (with less than 1500K miles) and like someone else said, it starts to break up passing through 6000 RPM. Keep this going.
On another note, I'm starting to think it's just hit or miss on the opti. When I bought my car, it had the original, and that lasted until my newbie at the time self powerwashed the motor. That was at about 85K. The second was flawless, but this first afte the vented swap has crapped already.
The LTCC seems like it would be the way to go, but there's still the problem of having the opti rotor flying apart. Maybe a Dynaspark in conjunction with the LTCC??? But who wants to spend that kind of cash?

Yes you can spin the Opti 7000 in most cases with no problem in street cars because they are not in that range of over 6800 for very long. And even in my case of a full race LT1 that lives 90% of the time over 6000 I have a very low failure rate. The 2 that I lost were over 2 years old. I switch them back and forth when I am having problems just to make sure the Opi is ok.
BUT!!! in my case, the threat of it breaking is very high. I might get away with it all year or like 2 weeks ago take me out of a big race. I allways carry a spare but during elimations I might not have the time to change it.
PS: Hey guys! I respect every ones opion even if I don't agree with it. I want to hear from every one that has one because I find that I can take bits of info from eveyone and in most cases fix my problem. But when people get insulted for it, they tend to not want to help and I think this hurts the forum and what it is designed to do.
Please lets try to help each other, Rick
