Best Clutch for mid-high 11s
Best Clutch for mid-high 11s
Im just looking for something with a little streetability at least and that will nice launches for a while. Im not one to ride the clutch a lot either so a nice grab would be just dandy. Not that Im running 11s or anything
I really like my McLeod Street twin. From racenet.net it cost me $904 shipped (comes with a flywheel and new master cylinder).
They say it is good to 1200 ft/lbs of torque. It also is not as tempermental as a carbon fiber, kevlar, ceramic, or other "puck" design clutches.

Everyone seems to like the newly redesigned SPEC Stage 3. You can choose from Kevlar, Carbon, or Ceramic (in that order, street to race-only). I went with the Stage 3 Carbon and SLP LT4 pressure plate. The PP is around $250 and the disc itself is around $170. You can get a complete PP & disc set from SPEC - I installed the LT4 one not too long ago and they said its the same as the one they use.

The thing about a street twin is that they come with everything (at least it did when I ordered it from racenet). Price out the components seperately and it isn't as expensive as it first might seem. Most Kits are just a disk and a pressure plate. The Street twin is the throw out bearing, the pressure plate, 2 disks, a floater, a flywheel, and a master cyl. All of it is set up from the factory for instant install. Hell, if I can do it anyone can. It dosn't chatter like a puck style disk will (ceramic and carbon fiber) and it wil NOT slip.
I made my decision to get the street twin when I did a search here and found that it was the only one that nobody was complaining about.

Go w/ the Mcleod and you won't be dissappointed.. When it gives out in 2 years.. you can have it rebuilt for about 375 or so w/ the cost of inflation and stuff over the next 2 years.. i just paid 325 shipped to my door to have mine completely rebuilt after my clutch fork bolt commited hari kari on the pressure plate.. over 2 dozen 5K dumps and thousands of hwy driven miles and it still had plenty of life left in it.. Only downside is you need to def. beef up your drivetrain as your guaranteed to break a 10 bolt and everything else behind it if your not careful.. Good Luck.. As for the spec clutch.. IMHO i think they are junk.. I know they have redesigned them and what not.. I'm the reason for the redesign.. I have nuked every 2 kevlar Stage III's.. They stopped making kevlar and Stage III in the same sentance.. Then they sent me a ceramic.. Well not only was it On/Off clutch.. it never seen the track and it blew out a spring.. So i got tired and requested a 6 puck unsprung hub'd disk w/ a pressure plate.. They willfully' sent me one.. ANd then i unloaded it on here still in the shrink wrapping for lot less than a GP could ever get it.. he's happy and i'm happier..
And now look.. thats what they are selling to you guys now.."the Redesigned" one.. but i have heard of other people having problems w/ them as well.. No company is going to be perfect in their product and their ability to be able to stand behind their stuff and back it regardless of what you do to it.. Sets Mcleod apart from the rest of them.. The personable service is top notch and you get the fact's.. Not the run around as i have had in the past dealing w/ spec..

I've nuked two clutches to date Stock & LT4/LT1 (SLP set-up) both were fine with street tires , but add Nittto's and they wont last long at all ... especially in an M6 when you heat them up and go for something below a 2.0/ 60'. (In six passes the LT4PP/LT 1 disc.) was failing
Do what I did and get the SteetTwin and never worry about your clucth again .

id like to know why the f'ck our clutches are so expensive.................theyre for a transmission in a HUGE amount of cars, and almost everyone buys one...........why are they so much.
i can understand $400-500...........but $900 just doesnt seem right.
