Began HVAC removal tonight... HOLY FREAKING CRAP....

What a damn pain in the ***.. first off whoever in GM designed the dash should be dragged outside and shot, I never thought there could be somany freaking little plastic holder thingies and different ways of routing wires.. it took me around 3 hours to get the dash out in way more pieces than I think it should have taken and after the first hour i said the hell with it and started cutting things out of the way. Then I gave up for the night and ill finally get around to the HVAC system tomorrow.

Il try to post some pics,

LOL, too bad there isn't one.

You have to remember that GM did not design the car with the idea that people were going to want remove the HVAC system.

I know what ya mean man but... IT would make sense for an automaker to make everything easy to change/maintain. Just about everything is hard on our cars. I need to change one of the lights on my dash so pics would help. Should I just not bother and leave the light burned out?

i feel ya. back when i took the HVAC system out of my old 95 firebird, i considered finishing the removal with some spare explosives i had laying around. think i ended up just busting and ripping the stupid thing out rather than messing with getting the last 1 or 2 hidden screws out. was just going to end up in the trash anyways

Its all of your a/c stuff.

Mine was a pain too. The hard part for me was trying to rehang the dash by myself. That thing is heavy and akward.

But when you're done, you can swap plugs like this

After that, grab a HELM's manual and start tearing into the wiring.

I know how you feel... Several months ago I had to replace the HVAC box that sits on the trans hump... No easy way around it.. I was able to get it out after unbolting the dash and lifting the passenger side.. Then I was able to wiggle it out.

Re: Began HVAC removal tonight... HOLY FREAKING CRAP....

Well like i said i got the dash out last night after much frustration but I got it out, I spent today pulling the HVAC system all of the duct work etc. I fabbed up a firewall panel out of Galvanized sheetmetal that I think was thick enough, I was going to paint it black to match, then I was going to polish it but I didnt feel like driving to the parts store for some rubbing coumpund so I just cut it out and bolted it in. I put the dash back in and ran all the wires the best I think I could a few were tight on length but I couldnt remember 100% how they went, so i stuck all of the parts back together for a test fit and everything lines up good so im happy about that. I couldnt believe how much space was taken up but the hvac stuff I swear my dash is like a empty barrel, I could hide a small body behind it lol.. Ill post some pics up tomorrow and show ya the results.

Wicked- nice car man i was looking through your site there and veryimpressive all around, I was looking at hugger orange for my car this summer but i cant let go of Torch red pearl, I love it to much, I just finished painting the engine bay in my car and theres a few pics in my sig but the pics dont show it as good as it turned out, Pretty good I think for rattle can gloss black, lol.. We may clear it still but I havnt gotten around to it.

Later,
-john
