My dad told me to change my plugs to autolite instead of the champion plat i have in it now.
My question is what type of autolite should i run ?

Re: Autolite ?

Most people seem to run NGK TR55 in "stockish" LT1's. The iridium plugs seem to provide good results, and very long plug life. What advantage does your dad feel the Autolite plugs offer? Nothing wrong with them.

Re: Autolite ?

My car didn't seem to like the champions when I had them years ago when my engine was close to stock. Switched to TR55's and have used them ever since TR6's now I guess, but Im far from stock.

If it runs good and you still have the stock manifolds (harder to change plugs) then I would probably leave them in.

INJUNEER
IM NOT SURE WHY MY DAD TOLD ME TO RUN AUTO LITE
AND WHEN I TOLD HIM EVERYONE ON THE BOARD RUNS NGK
HE STATED THOSE ARE GOOD PLUGS TOO SO I GUESS ITS MORE OF A preference
then a need

8cylinders>4 YES I NEED TO GET RID OF THESE CHAMPION
PLUGS I THINK THERE FOULING ALREADY AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS
AND ITS NOT THAT HARD TO CHANGE MY PLUGS WITH MANIFOLDS AND I DO THEM ALL FROM THE TOP
IN ABOUT 15 MINS I DID HEAR ON THIS SITE A COUPLE PEOPLE SAY WHEN YOU
PUT HEADERS ON YOU HAVE TO DO TOP/BOTTOM

what gap should i gap them too ? i have them at .45 right now

Re: Autolite ?

Did you use standard, platinum or iridium plugs?

Re: Autolite ?

That will determine the recommended gap.

Nothing wrong with Autolite, I use them with the NA and small shot tune. And a very cold Champion racing plug with the 300-shot. The plugs and gaps were recommended by the guys that built and dyno tuned the engine, using those specific plugs. But with a "stock"/bolt-on/N2O engine, I ran NGK TR6's.

15 Minutes!! that's pretty hard to believe, you must have ninja hands then. The number 2 plug is pretty tough to get at with the alternator installed..

With headers I get 1, 3, 7, 6, and 8 from the bottom, the rest from the top.

anyway, with the NGK's they came pre-gapped at .044" and I always had good luck doing that.
