Autolite 103's?

Has Anyone ever had idle problems with these? My car idles poorly now. For those who don't know they are two steps colder than stock plugs. I have 8 new autolite 104's ready to go in, to see if it fixes the problem, but wondered if anyone has had a problem with the 103's. The reason i went to the 103's is because i know i am going to up the N20 soon after i run it

I might go the NGK Tr6 route...

I run the the 103's with no idle problems. It maybe something else or you may have burnt one up if you sprayed it. Later Clint

I've run the 103's and the 104's with no problem.... 104's at the 500HP level NA, and the 103's on a 125-shot (625HP total).

Re: Autolite 103's?

Well then another question. Will 1.6RR's make it idle loppy? I always heard that it should make almost no difference. It sounds like it has a cam now. I can see the rpm surge on the tach inside the car easily. I know it changes the lift, but guess I didn't expect the surge as if I had changed cams. This is the only other thing I have done. Since this surge at low rpm. Would this RR change make the idle loopy like this? I really didn't think it would idle like this--I like it--if it's suppose to be there, just a little worried it wasn't suppose to be there. I went back the other day and re-adjusted them on the easy side and they were all right on 1/4 past zero lash. I guess I will go back and readjust the passanger side again too just to be safe.

Nope I haven't sprayed it yet at all. It's been slow going this winter-didn't get much done and now i'm too busy. Hopfully i can get this figured out soon.

If you're running the 103's and just idleing and doing low speed driving, there's a small chance you've fouled them.

Re: Autolite 103's?

Yea, I have only driven it maybe 20 miles and allow it to idle for probably 30minutes or so while adjusting valve lash. I was starting to think plugs too. I pulled the number 1 plug yesterday, I will try to get a picture of a couple of plugs. I will try to explain it. It was pure black around the lower white porcelain area, the ground strap was clean-like new, the electrode had just a small flake of black on it. I think it means it's too cold. I plan to swap in the 104's. They should be okay for 125hp shot I think. They are gaped @ .40 I believe.

When I drove it that 20 miles i made a couple pulls up to 6,000 rpm. It would pop very loud from under the hood on the drivers side. kindof like.....rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..pop....pop....shift.

Injuneer do you think I should pull all the plugs and go with 104's?? I should go through and make sure the IAC and all vacum lines are connected first though. Just to double check.

Re: Autolite 103's?

If they're really fouled you need to put in the 104's.

Sounds like you may have other issues to deal with though. The plugs would have to be pretty crudded up to start misfiring enough to cause a rough idle.

Re: Autolite 103's?

I have one more side to re-adjust, then i have no idea what to do. Maybe a leak down test.

I can hear the surge in the exhaust at the rear of the car if that makes any difference. Thanks for the help so far everyone. I really want to get it to the track soon.
