Which ATF and how much?
I am putting my motor back in and I'm wondering which ATF should I use for the 700R4? I know the tranny is the car's original (car had 129K miles) and I'm not sure if it has ever been rebuilt. I drained as much fluid as I could from it and replaced the filter, pan gasket, the front pump seal and the extension housing seal. How much fluid will the tranny take in this state?
Also, being a 6 speed person, I'm not sure which fluid would be best for this tranny. I went to autozone and the cheapest they have is Coastal at 1.xx per quart. They have all sorts of other stuff like Valvoline Max Life at 3.xx per quart, B&M trick shift and other fluids. I figured since this tranny may die soon, I'll go with the Coastal. I'm sure synthetic won't be any good for it and I'm not very sure about the others. Let me know what you think.
Thanks.

I went with aamco trans fluid but I really dont think there is a whole lot of difference, I bought a case of 12 and I think I used 10 total.
Make sure to fill the converter, as much as you can anyway. Then fill the trans as much as you can and then start it up. you check trans fluid with it idleing in neutral. I had to add 3 more after I started it up.

how do I fill the converter with the tranny installed? Hopefully I won't have to take it out again....

um, you are supposed to fill the converter with it out, but if isnt not a new converter it wont be dry anyway. with a new converter starting dry can kill the bearings in it. I wouldn't pull it apart to fill it unless it is a new converter.
