Good Price On Honda ATF Z1
I've heard a lot of good things about Honda ATF with Z1 so I'm going to give it a try. I'm currently running Mobil 1 ATF but I have a lot of neutral gear rattle and I can feel the 3-4 synchros so I'm hoping that the Honda ATF will quiet things down. Nothing real bad, just an annoyance. Cheapest place I found was at HondaAutoParts.com at $2.89 a quart plus shipping, part number 651262. The local Honda dealer wants $4.75 a quart plus tax.

Thats a pretty good price the local dealer here gets 3.89 a qt. It will help smooth things out. I have a rattle when my car is in 3rd or 4th and its from the shifter not the tranny. If you have the Hurst competition plus shifter you might want to check that. I pulled mine out and held the bottom part and moved the handle and I had a lot of play in it. When I accelerate really hard the shifter vibrates and makes a lot of noise but only in 3rd or 4th.
while on the topic of honda ATF fluid, I am interested in switching over to it. I've heard that you can get it at autozone? and are there regular and synthetic kinds of honda fluid? Anyone happen to know if it would be safe for me to put some in my toyota pickups 5-speed? How many bottles of the stuff listed above would I need?
Thanks for any help

Just curious, anyone say to not use the Honda ATF? Does it really make a big difference?
My main concern is wear and tear as I just had to have my trans rebuilt a couple of months back since the last owner never changed it in 88k miles! If this stuff helps the wear and has no adverse effects, I'm all for it......
.....but what does everyone think? Good or bad.....I want to hear about it!
Thanks!

I've heard nothing but great comments on Honda ATF, that's what I have in my car. I decided to put it in due to feedback from topnotch mechanics in Washington state, they said that it's great, and NOT to use synthetic ATF fluid in M-6 trannys, they don't like it as much for some reason.
Ive used both and I would stick with the Mobil 1 ....you want see any improvment going to the Honda ATF. One thing that will quiten the syncros a good bit is the GM rear addative...put a couple of bottles in with the Mobil 1 and you will notice a difference.
Well, I changed out the Mobil 1 and put in the Honda ATF Z1 and I can't say that I can feel a whole lot of difference. The shifts might be a little better and the neutral gear rattle may be a little quieter but it's very hard to tell the difference. I guess the moral of the story is just use a good quality ATF, either Mobil 1 or Honda Z1.
I am a little concerned about the Honda ATF because it is NOT marked as a Dexron II or Dexron III ATF. I know that a lot of drivers on this board use it but the fact remains, it is not labeled as a Dexron ATF. This could be a problem if a transmission is under warranty and it fails. It's possible that the warranty may be voided since GM requires a Dexron III ATF. Just food for thought.
