Exclamation Assistance w/pushrods & valvetrain components...

Hey folks,

Is it just me, or is it kind of hard to find certain components you can find for virtually any other small block chevy, yet are nearly impossible, if not impossible to find, for an LT1? Anyways, recommendations for the following, which will be going on a basically stock, but hotcammed LT4:

Strong pushrods

Valvesprings, locks, retainers

ARP or similar fasteners

Canton or Stef's oil pan (recommendation)

I may smooth the heads a little, no major porting yet or anything, but did notice some indifferences on the exhaust surfaces on various ports. Seems kinda rough to me. They aren't nicked up or anything, just don't seem very smooth. Strange how the aftermarket seems to have just past by the LT1's though, fewer parts on the market by the day it seems...

Kinda like SLP never making tuned length longtubes, stuff like that, ya know?

thanks!

All components are readily available from a multitude of vendors. Not sure what it is that you cannot find.

Call Combination Motorsports for advice and good prices.

There's really nothing wrong with the stock oil pan. Why do you want to change it? Anyway, the major manufacurers do make them. They are often not listed in catalogs (JEG's, Summitt) because they aren't big sellers, but they are avaialable from those vendors, as well as others. Just ask.

The other stuff you mention is widely available. What specifically can't you find?

ARP Fasteners, for one, anyways, I haven't seen them listed anywhere, so I assume they're pretty scarce, if even made. I don't know whether or not standard SBC bolts work or not, but wasn't willing to take a chance on that.

Aftermarket valve covers that are slightly taller and also allow you to keep your alternator in the stock location would be nice as well, but I'm unaware of any offhand that will work.

Why anyone hasn't pursued a different than LT4 HD timing set besides switching to an electric water pump, I have no idea, but that is another item that comes to mind.

As many fbodies that are out there, I'm kind of surprised there isn't aftermarket bolt-in shifters for the automatic guys either, as the megashifter, for instance, is a very popular item for 3rd gens, had two different cars with one.

Also, look at companies like SLP kind of abandoning the LT1. No aftermarket sales of specialty parts, or anyways, they're getting scarce, which sucks, since I started my '95's buildup using all SLP-related items, now it's ready for better, or internal parts, they don't really dabble with LT1s anymore in favor of catering to the ulmighty LS1. No springs. No kits. Not even LT4 heads, etc for sale anymore. They never really "grew" on expanding parts that have been around since like 1996.

Whereas the LS1 has new parts out each month in a number of locations.

...just venting, I guess. Sorry.

All the bolts on an LT1 are SAE thread. Most regular SBC stuff will work

I'm using GM Performance (Proform) tall chromed aluminum valvecovers. I had the "clearance" the alternator slightly.

Summit now carries a reasonably priced chain. I used a stock chain on my top end rebuild

I've even asked B&M about this.
