Thats the best price your gonna find for the complete opti, brand new. I paid $477 for mine from a local auto shop, summits are like $389 or somthing like that.
If you only get the cap and rotor, then your ordering the wrong p/n or the guy behind the counter made a mistake. Like I said, I've been running autozone optis in my car for years - so have lots of other people... If they werent complete, my car wouldnt be running...

vented optis are cheaper then non-vented. i bought my non-vented for about $270 last summer for jason cromer. if you have to do all that work to get to the opti then why skimp out and put a cap/rotor kit on it when i've read nothing but bad things about them. i personally would spend the extra money and get a full gm one for piece of mind.

Thumbs down

Autozone sells the distributor(opti) and cap and rotor kit separately for non vented... Cost me $330 total for both and you have to put it together yourself... They don't have a complete optispark... Neither even came with the plastic opti housing that's in between the cap and opti either... You have to use your original... The cap also has a male torx or star head bolts that you either have to buy a special tool to remove them or use an old torx screw to remove the cap to get at the plastic opti housing... I talked to the manager about paying $170 for a cap and rotor kit and it not even including the plastic opti housing.. He called several stores and they all said none of their kits had the cover... If you want an entire non vented optispark, don't bother buying the Autozone kits and putting them together.. Save yourself the trouble and buy a whole unit some place else.

The platsic piece w/ the plug housing is part of the Autozone cap and rotor kit. The cap and rotor kit along with the opti, is the complete optispark, as sold by GM.
This true for the Autozone non-vented and vented optis. In doubt - Just call the tech line and ask 1-800-288-6966

I've bought both vented and non-vented from Autozone and I've got the new plug housing each time.

IMO, peace of mind = autozone lifetime warranty.
GM 1 year warranty

Must be a regional thing or a screw up with the manufacturer then... The manager pulled two more cap and rotor kits and I had him call a couple of other Autozones in my area and all came with the same... The cap and rotor, but the housing that goes directly on top of the opti wasn't included... I thought for $170 the kit would include all three pieces... It wasn't included with the opti I bought either... If you expect it, just make sure you check the cap and rotor kit for it before you leave the store because it might not be included as it wasn't in my case.

True - it may be regional. Some of the guys on here from Utah and Florida claim to have gotten the complete Autozone optis (vented) packaged with the cap and rotor. All in one box, and all at $130. Locally (Houston), I had to buy the cap and rotor seperately, and havent seen them packaged together.

So, there may differences regionally, depending on Autozones suppliers.

Re: Anyone having luck with AutoZone opti's?

I just bought an AutoZone opti. Came with cap, rotor, and the plug housing. Paid $93 bucks for it (then again i work there ). I took my car all apart and i'm now stuck cause i don't have that damn miniature torx bit. I heard someone say it was an E4. Does that sound right? Also i noticed my water pump drive shaft sticking out above the opti can wiggle a bit. should i worry about this?? ...Last friday night before school starts and my bird is down in my driveway. where can i get that torx?!

I don't know the sizes... Are you talking about the screws for the rotor, or the screws on the cap? I got the rotor bits from Autozone.. Came in a package of 4 or 5 with different sizes... For the cap, I used a torx screw off an old carb and tightened vise grips on the threads and got them off that way.

Use another standard type torx screw to remove and reinstall the odd male one on the opti. I think I used one of the torx screws from the plastic piece on the throttle body.

Also, down here in West Palm Beach (FL) I bought avented opti Autozone kit. It came with cap, rotor, and housing with the plug in it. Cost about $130 or so if I remember right. I have about 10k miles on the thing. As I understand it, the optical sensor is not typically the part that fails. It's the cap.

I bought mine from the snap on guy that happened to pull up to the stop sign in front of my house at the exact time I found out I needed one for the opti. You talk about good luck.

If it is a torx bit it would be T4. T4 sounds rather small to me.
