Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
aight guys i am contemplating whether to use the seafoam or not...i KNOW my baby needs it (as its never been done in 94K) i have used some in the gas tank b4 as injector cleaner and will prolly pour a half can in the tank 2morrow again.. but the only reason i am scared to use it in the brake booster to clean the comb. chambers and intake etcc...is b/c i just put in new 02 sensors last week... i DO NOT want to ruin or foul these new 02's b/c A. theyr r expensive..and B. i dont want to drop the exhaust again to change em...I need some good feedback about what my chances r of fouling these 02's? The car runs strong as can possibly be but i know that carbon has been building up in there long past due..ahhh what to do...should i take the chance?
oh also how bout the plugs? thery pretty new as well..does this process foul plugs?

Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
i personally was never a firm believer in injector cleaner and additives. id just leave well enough alone especially with new O2 sensors, not only that but all that carbon crap you speak off would probably do a nice job on your converter wouldnt you think? and who really feels like pulling the exahaust off just to let the car run. man id fill it up with some premuim grade 93+ fuel and get it up to like 60 and open it right up
Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
well the thing is is that my new convertor goes in saterday...so this one i dont care about.plus i could open up my cutout b4 the cat...im worried about the 02 sensors and plugs....and what do u mean u dont 'believe ' in injector cleaning? and it has never seen less than 91 octane plus i open her up plenty....i just think the seafoam is a good idea at this mileage but i am worried about my plugs and 02 sensors the mosy

Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
do it man
i've done it on my 120k rs, 53k z28, and 140k (sister's) cavy
all of them did fine and are going strong
i also put in new spark plugs and O2 before i did the seafoam on my rs (forgot about doing seafoam beforehand, but did it anyways)
worked like a charm and nothing was wrong whatsoever
just be sure the car is warm, and drive the **** out of it when you go to restart (keep the revs high)
o, and enjoy the smoke show
looks something like joe dirt

Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
The way I see seafoam... if the motor is bad enough to need it then you kinda run a risk of losing the motor knocking all the old deposites into the oil like that. If the motor looks good though then there really isnt any need for the stuff. What I mean by looking good is when you pop off the valvecover do you notice any sludge on the head or in the lifter valley if the intake has ever been off. Change your oil regularly and I dont see why anybody would need an additive like seafoam.
Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
TURBOZ pretty much cleared that for me on why i dont believe in cleaners and such., good oil, decent fuel filter and a WOT now and again and id leave it alone, like what i dont get is what makes you think the car needs an injector cleaner? just out of curiosity sp?
. like if the injectors where so dirty that the car isnt running right i couldnt see a bottle of injector cleaner curring the problem. Or if you get a puff of smoke when your at WOT a cleaner wont do n e thing for you, it might even make it worse IMO

on my 110k z28, I had never used seafoam before. I ran a whole can of the stuff through the brake booster line, then as the can was about 1/4-1/3 full, I dumped the whole thing in and let the motor suck it all in. I took off the intake elbow and used a socket to hold the throttle open while i drenched the entire intake with seafoam deep creep. While i was spraying the crap out of the inside of my intake i did happen to spill a little bit on a very dirty part of my engine (grease and dirt was CAKED on). The deep creep literally cut right through that crap. I wiped it away and the area i wiped looked new, I was astonished. Seafoam really does cut through grease - and from what they say it removes the carbon deposits from inside your cat too. I just know that when i've used it my car ran a TON better after the treatment...
just my $0.02
just my $0.02
Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
If you are worried about hurting your new o2's either swap your old ones back in first or just remove your new ones before you do it and leave them out, use the seafoam, then replace them. I seafoamed mine just after replacing the o2's and I just removed them and used it, the engine will still run without the o2's there, it just stays in open loop and will use the pre set readings to run. Then when you are done and it's all cleaned out just replace the o2's. I replaced my plugs afterwards as well but you dont have to.
Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
I've used it on several high mileage cars and never had to replace the 02 sensor. Prepare yourself for a fogout.... when you start the engine, your neighbors are gonna think the place is on fire.
Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
I have nothing but love for the seafoam. That stuff has done great stuff for me. PUll the brake booster hose off the booster, dip it in the bottle and suck the bottle dry. Kill the motor quickly after it sucks it all up. Let it sit 20 minutes. Start it up and go romnp on it. First 2 blocks youll be putting out a smoke screen. But i dont care how good your car ran before, with more then 40K on it it will run better after seafoam. Never had a problem wih it fouling plugs or O2s or any problems at all. DOnt hesitate youll be fine. I think it even says safe for O2s right on the bottle if im not mistaken. The bronco website im on just started using this stuff and nothing but fgreat results from a ton of trucks that did this treatment.
Re: Hmmm..seafoam vs new 02's ?
ya the seafoam is safe on 02's but the 94K miles worth of carbon that come out the exhaust ports on the heads arent...i can take my drivers side o2 out in 30 seconds but i HAVE to drop the y pipe to get to the passanger 02 and thats a bitc*...these 02s have like 50 miles on them they r brand new and i am NOT replacing them just for seafoam..i dont know if i should take the chance?
