Any of you have problems with aftermarket, intank fuel pumps?

I need a pump and am having trouble deciding which to go with.

I see Racetronix and they have a nice kit, but a little too nice for my wallet. I see another Racetronix kit that has the pump and flex hose, but not the extra wiring designed to regain some lost current. Even that kit is 160$.

My main question was in the title. Did any of you who bought regular high output pumps that only came with the rubber hose, and consequentially a different pump which will not fit in the stock bucket, have problems of any kind?

Thanks, Mike.

My friend's Walbro 255lph had the internal check valve fail after 6 months. We replaced it with the Racetronix setup. Go to the Racetronix website and read why their kit is better; pretty convincing to me.

Had internal check valve fail on mine after a few days (walbro 255). New one was overnighted to me and has been in there for long time without fail.

I believe once you start to dig there are several brands pumps are being sold under but they come down to pretty much all being Walbros. I think the Racetronics stuff offers some little things to make it fit better and the wiring upgrade which is good but I thought it was still a Walbro pump.

That is the same thing I have been told more than once too. All the same basically, just repackaged. It is what each different company adds that makes them different.

Just didn't know if the hose(rubber) causes many problems. Doesn't seem like it would to me.

Rubber is no longer used in most new factory fuel systems. Do you know why?
Do you know why GM did not use rubber hose on the pump feed line while all others are rubber in the F-LT1 system? Have you ever seen how hard and cracked the factory rubber hoses are?

FYI ... Racetronix is the ONLY company making a F-LT1 specific system. All others such as APE, BBK, Holley etc. use re-boxed Walbro pumps w/o alternations along with Walbro supplied installation kits which again are not application specific. If you read our ad everything you see is something we alter or add to the pump in order to make it F-LT1 specific.

Here is a person who is about to run around and spend at least $5.00 on a good gas resistant adhesive which would have been included with the Racetronix FPA for $159.99 among other essential items. He will not have a reliable pump seal in the bottom of the bucket and he will be forced to reuse the old corroded factory wiring.

So it is still a walbro just with parts that stop guy from having to make 3 trips to the parts store to get it installed, seems like a good thing to me. A friend did have trouble with the rubber he got in his Walbro kit. That was for an Impala he ended up just dropping the tank again and using the stock hose he had saved from when he put in the Walbro. I am guessing that does not work on the f-body.

Yes, plus the bottom of the pump is machined with an o-ring groove so it has a snap-seal into the bottom of the bucket. There are other things different about the system but this is all covered in our ad.

Re: Any of you have problems with aftermarket, intank fuel pumps?

I do see the advantages of the Racetronix system. I also see spending twice the amount necessary for a high output pump.

When I took out my 12 year old pump assy(which had 180k miles on it), I noticed no dry rot hose or corroded wiring. I also never had fuel starvation problems.

If I knew the rubber hose supplied in other kits was going to rot before I took it out again, I would definately pick up the 160$ kit.

I definately agree with Racetronix engineering on this product, just recognizing my needs as well.

In the b-bodies melted fuel pump wiring is not uncommon and as I said a friend used the hose supplied by Walbro and had trouble and went back to the stock hose which was fine.

He reused the stock plastic hose? How did it clip onto the pump?
