another opti-spark ?

I have a buddy with a 95 z this will be the 4th opti put on the car. It will run fine for about 3000 miles with no problem then all of a sudden it will not fire. This is the third one to go bad. They are all brand new GM units from our local chevy dealer and installed there also. I was wondering if anyone had any insight with a similar problem. Thanks for any information.

Does he have an aftermarket ignition?? Is his coil bad?? I would check upstream of the opti, maybe there is a problem causing the opti to prematurely fail. Also, it might be worth taking apart the broken opti, and see whats wrong inside. Maybe you can see shorted contacts or burns.....

make sure you dont have any excesive water hitting it, a leaky water pump hose or something , water constantly on it could cause it to crap out

Just had the same thing happen to me

It was caused by a leaking water pump. Make sure the WP is OK before replacing that thing again. GM should be replacing these things free. What a stupid design.

There is no law that says a little water will kill an opti. It all depends on the individual unit and how well it is sealed.
