Bad water pump & now the car has a miss please help!!

OK here's my question this is on my 97 LT1 this car is almost brand new since I have replaced almost everything under the hood except the water pump and the opti-spark. The car has new plugs & wires and new coil and new ignition. The other day when I put the car up on the lift the water pump is leaking and the opti-spark looks a little wet and the car is starting to stumble & sputter, and it is throwing an SES light and when I test it the code is random or multiple cylinder misfire. I have checked all of the plugs and wires and everything is good. From what I have read here on the board that a "bad" opti-spark will NOT throw an SES light (is the OBD2 just that much more sensitive)?? I have to change the water pump so the opti-spark is no big deal, I just want to make sure its bad before I replace it, does anybody have ANY other suggestions on how to find out if the opti-spark is "bad"??

Thank you in advance for you're help.

It is possible your Opti is going bad with the water pump leaking on it-mine did throw a code before it went out,but mine was OBD1

If you are replacing the water pump you might as well change out the opti anyway. Better safe than sorry.

Hey it's just another great engineering design by GM!

Goes with the territory I guess?

Thanks for the input.

Thanks everyone!

My plug wire on cylinder #1 was not on the spark plug all of the way & causing a misfire, for some reason it came loose & that was my problem.
