Re: Another 847 record....

Not to burst any bubbles here, but different dynos read different numbers. Some are setup high, some low. I went to the dyno with bolt-ons and put down 301rwhp/338rwtq. I then added an ignition system and aluminum ds and went to a different dyno and put down 295rwhp/325rwtq. That is a difference of 6rwhp/13rwtq.

My point here is dyno numbers dont tell the whole story because they arent all the same dynos. The guy that made 360rwhp might have only made 3544rwhp at my dyno...who knows. Congrats on the numbers though, they are damn good whatever they are.

Someone might want the larger cam for the more aggressive idle, just for show purposes.

Re: Another 847 record....

Good numbers, not that unbelieveable though.
I hit 350rwhp with my cutout closed on my stock(!) I pipe, and we let out of it at 5800rpm because the motor was fresh.

What are the specs on the 847?

The dyno we were at reads low for whatever reason...Performance Engineering in Cincinnati. One of the guys that went with us had his car dynoed in Bowling Green by TEA...they're supposedly pretty conservative. He made 374 RWHP down there. His first run at Performance Engineering (no changes for him since Bowling Green) showed 359 RWHP.

There's a clip on there in the middle of Jared's car idling. It sounds mean as hell in person.

The specs are listed at the top of this page.

As for different dynos, you are correct. However, there are several other people with this cam making similiar numbers on different dynos. All SAE, all dynojet.

I dont have any videos of the 360 car, but i have some of mine

Re: Another 847 record....

You dont think spinning a stock bottom end to 6400~6600rpm is too much?

Re: Another 847 record....

If it has been setup right, 6400-6600 shouldn't be a problem. I've shifted mine at 6700-6800 before and know a TON of people spinning their bottom end close to 7000 at least a couple of times a week. Of course, you should decide about your shift points based on the dyno graph. If the power falls off much earlier, there is no need to spin that high. Mine just stays pretty much there to about 6500-6600.

Re: Another 847 record....

I would say its safe to spin that high IF

You use the right components.
Check all your clearences (P/V contact on a flating valve at 7k is BAD)
Have good oil pressure at idle (20+psi)
Do a very clean install, plug your ports etc.

Very nice explanation. So it seems like the dyno you were on is one of the lower output one. Sounds like a monster you got. You going to hit the track any time soon (I am interested in mph).

Unfortunately, it's not my monster...the car that pulled those numbers belongs to someone else. He ended up with a best that day of 364 RWHP and 420 RWTQ, and that's through a turbo 400 with a dying fuel pump. It'll be meaner than hell once it's right.

My car somewhat disappointed me...the HP numbers were where I expected them to be, but the TQ numbers fell short of what I wanted. My graph (forgive the gaps, Dynojet's reader program sucks):

http://lt1dave.com/media/dyno_day_20.../jeff_best.gif

Mine is a 385 LT1, 10.6:1 compression, Comp 218/224 cam, 1.6 rockers, big *** heads, Delteq, longtubes, built 4L60E, 2800 Vigilante, 3.73s, stock i-pipe and a Hooker Aerochamber muffler. What did make me happy is the fact that I picked up 30 HP and 60 TQ on the dyno. What really made me happy is the fact that the car ran 12.53 @ 111 before it went on the dyno. Hopefully I can squeak an 11.99 out of it come November (crossing fingers). If it doesn't go 11s, I'll either spray it or start searching for a somewhat larger cam.

Re: Another 847 record....

for peak acceleration, ideal shift point should be at an rpm where the upshift does not lose rwtq.

eg. peakrwtq at 4500, starts to fall. if u shift at 6600rpm, and the next gear starts off pulling less, it means u shifted too early. if the upshift gives u more rwtq, it means u shifted too late, and you revved so high that your rwtq fell down too much.

Re: Another 847 record....

Now this has got me really anxious. 847+ported heads+12:1 compression, 6" rod 355
This thing has already been 12.0 with a tiny CC305 and stock bottom end...LOL
Could low 11's be possible?????

Frank

Re: Another 847 record....

i made 330rwhp 330rwtq with a cam only. i know that doesnt sound like much, but i had stock rockers, lt1 km, stock throttle body, no aftermarket cat-back (just muffler), stock fuel system, and a mail order tune with no updates. also, all those #'s were through a 9" rear.
