What exactly is the point of having the air pump going to the headers on cars?? what purpose does it serve and how much difference in the emissions is there with it removed??

 

It heats up your Cats faster so they can do there job sooner. Other than that they serve no other purpose for emissions on our cars(as far as I know).

correct, runs for no more then 2 minutes at start up only

Not sure about the '94's but my '97 will throw a code if the AIR is removed. You should consider deleting the code with a PCM tune. I don't think it affects driveability to run with the code though.

 

yeah Im putting on heads and cam so i'll be getting a tune anyway...i'll be sure to note I deleted them.


If I drive around for a while before getting emissions done to get the cat nice and hot wouldn't it pretty much serve the same purpose? the only visual inpection they do is look for a cat.

 

93-95 OBD-I does not set a code for the missing AIR pump, as long as there is a good fuse in the circuit.
