Maybe consider a CF shaft, I believe they will act a little more like a shock absorber without taking a permanent twist the way aluminum will.

95 Bird uses an aluminum DS. Also the Denny’s aluminum shaft will hold about 1,000 HP (so says Denny himself). It has a lot to do with tube diameter and material thickness. Also, yes it is a 12 bolt with 33 spine axles. The only reason the DS is trashed is because of the rear U-joint failure, and that only failed because the debris in the diff locked the pinion to the ring. The local chassis/ rear end shop has plenty of very fast cars with 12 bolts, and they all run pro gears. In fact, when I described the problem, the first question they asked was weather or not I was running a pro gear. The 9" does have advantages, but at this point a change is not required. If I lowered the launch speed below 4,000 rpm then the standard gear would be fine, but what fun would that be? Also A3/A4 cars are much less likely to chew up gears, but enough dumps from a trans brake will eventually cause failure.

Anyone have a mirror for the videos in this thread? Not the streetfire one, but the ones on 95formula.ls2.com?

flyinZ: Me too.

I ordered the DS, but it will take a few weeks. I have the rest set up, so that will be the only thing I need to get the car driving.

No problem...just curious as I'm going the SR route and will be buying a new rear within the next few months.

The rear end ended up fine, and the driveshaft ended up being a last minute change to the nitrous ready unit. The Pro gear and the spool are the secret for a long lasting 6-speed 1/4 mi set up.

I just had the car caged in time for M-13, and went a new best MPH of 128.5 mph, and a best 1/4 of 10.8. The weather never seemed to cooperate with my racing schedule this past year, but over all the car went faster every time it went out. I also put some much deserved street mileage on it. This thing is a wicked street car, it pulls 5th gear very fast. It needs a passenger seat, and some interior finishing work, but there is no question that the car means business. I have some video of the street driving, and a race with something cool, but you will have to wait a few more weeks for those. I will start a new thread with the video updates attached to it when everything is ready.

94Z28rag: The SR is the way to play. I love it.

Did your denny's shaft have a nitrous ready sticker on it? Mine just said Denny's on it so I was curious if all of them said that or not??

Can't wait to see the vids!

I've been following your progress for a while now...both here and on YouTube. I will be going with a SR thanks to you!

The only thing I'm struggling with is the rear end choice, as this car will see street/road course/autocross time as well as plenty of drag racing.
