Aftermarket injectors vs stock
Aftermarket injectors vs stock
Is there any noticeable difference in performance on a near stock setup. I am about to install an 93 LT1 in a 68 Firebird 400 it will have headers and a cold air intake. The engine has 39k miles I am trying to decide if I should have the stock injectors cleaned or replace them with aftermarket ones. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Aftermarket injectors vs stock
No unless you have upgraded the engine with a power adder (ie: nitrous, supercharger, or turbo) or if you have changed the cubic inches of the engine (ie: 355 383 396 ect) Then larger injectors are not needed. There will be no power gains and you will notice a drop in fuel economy as well as performance as you will be running very rich.
Re: Aftermarket injectors vs stock
Since you thought there might be a performance gain from aftermarket injectors I think the best thing we can tell you after NO is that you have a LONG LONG ways to go before you are ready to modify a computer controlled engine. You found a good place to learn though you will just have to first learn who here has a clue and who is an 18yo kid that has about 5% the knowledge he thinks he does.
Re: Aftermarket injectors vs stock
Thanks for the info guys. I was only considering aftermarket injectors of the same size. I had seen some reports of aftermarket ones having a better spray pattern. I just didn't know if it was true or if it really made any performance difference. Thanks again.

Re: Aftermarket injectors vs stock
The stock injectors have the flow pattern and atomization that the engineers at GM used to design the intake manifold and heads. Cleaning the stockers will return the injectors to their intended performance.
Re: Aftermarket injectors vs stock
96caprice thanks for the concern but I'm 46yrs old I've been turning wrenchs on actual race cars of all sorts since I was twelve,I now own a 69 Chevelle Bracket car with a mild 454 with a Performer intake, 750 Holley,Engle 286 solid, 11:1 running 11.10@118 TH400 12 bolt spool and 4.10in a 3200lb car w/driver thats with safe timing and jetting from the previous 396 tune. I am about to put my 68 442 with 455/4-speed/12 bolt posi back on the road for shake down miles after a total rebuild of all systems and a swap from TH400 to Richmond 4-speed all work done by me engines, transmissions, rear ends. The Firebird will be LT1-Tremec 600rr with 3.42 gears. I purchased the 39,000 mile engine and ordered the factory service manuals. I worked as a GM factory mechanic and I'm pretty sure with a little help here and there from some of you guys I can handle it. Thanks again for the help.
