possible clutch fork? I know the retention bolt for the fork can get old and break. I had that happen to me, but it made my car stall. It had a similar sound.

You can check this by taking the slave cylinder off and peeking in to see your forks orientation.

Yeah, that definitely sounds flywheel related. I've never heard a rod knock that insane, lol.

I have the valve covers off and everything looked fine.
...the bolts that hold the RMS housing on. They are not torx. The stud for the one nut has a torx head, though.

A rod knock on a WRX might not sound the same as yours. I would not try to compare the two. Still, you might actually have a rod knock.

K well i'll check everything else. The trans is out and i didn't see anything wrong with anything while i was taking it all apart. I drained the oil and cut the filter open and took it out. There are very few small specs of metalic stuff. Would that be enough to consider a problem?

Does anyone have a clip of a lt1 rod knock?

The tranny is out. clutch and PP off and i was just looking at the RMS a few days ago. All the bolts seemed to be right. (altho i didn't take a wrench to them). So i'm basically out of options and it would HAVE to be something internal right?

Is/was your exhaust hitting on your tunnel brace? I've never heard any noise like that, unless it was flywheel related.

Hm. your right that doesn't lound like my noise at all. Man i hate this car lol. The only problem is i can't think of anything around that area that would make that noise at that tempo. Is there a valve or anything in the back of the intake that would cause this?

When i got under the car when it was running to check, it sounded more like it was coming from the back of the motor on the passenger side. I did take a screw driver, placed one end to my ear and the other right to where the RMS housing way and didn't hear much. Same with the oil pan. It all sounded 'normal' to me and more like it was coming from somewhere around the top of the transmission. (although thats just what it SOUNDED like)

p.s. thanks for everyones help and suggestions so far!

Quick question. Should there be ANY metallic specs in the oil filter? There are very small shiny pieces. And i can't tell if some of them are connected to the magnet because of the oil or if they're metal lol.

I found no metal shavings in the oil tho

Ive had an alternator that sounded like that when the bearings were bad.

You may be able to tell the noise is nowhere near the alternator but if not then maybe its worth looking at.
