hi,
i was wondering what i can do,or buy,"prefer to buy" to make my 97 z28 camaro's fans turn on sooner? im getting ready to install a new coolant level sensors,and was going to put in a 160 thermostat,and was also wanting to make the fans turn on sooner,i see "jet" has the fan switch set for up to 95,why does it stop there,and will it still work on my 97?i don't "need" a tune,and dont really want to bother with that,just want my car to run a little cooler,also anybody out there just run a 160 thermo? if so,how hot does it get,or will that be enough to keep it from running hot? my car runs around200-225,and higher day temps has pushed it to 230-235,thanks for all your help.

I've ran a 160 stat for a long time with no fan tuning, and the car will sit right at 175ish on nice days, during the summer it will push 200. I've had my car sitting idling at a Sonic for 15 mins before and most people say the car would shoot right up to 220 with out the fans turned down but it'll stay at 175ish. I wouldn't buy a fan switch they are expensive as hell, some of them are $75 bucks or so for a store bought one. Thats just insane they can be made for about $5-10, or i'd just get a tune done.

 

i'm in the process of making my own fan switch. i used shoboxes diagram.

 

Get a custom tune from MadZ28 and he will change the fan on/off settings for you.

 

Plus, if that is the only thing that you want done to the PCM, he may work out a special pricing for you. He offered to do something similar for me as I only needed one thing changed at the time.

 

thanks alot guys,ill have to check with him,im planning on doing some engine work next winter,and was going to get a tune done then,didnt want to have two of them done,when one would take care of it,thanks again for your guys help.
