95 Z28 vs 97 supercharged cobra
it would take 7-8 thousand dollars to build a all motor motor(not including the rear end) to outrun that s/c cobra.
how do i know (since I "have no clue whatsoever when it comes to cars").i just built a 396,and i am very fruggle and always wait for deals on parts,it still cost $6k in parts and still more to spend.but what do i know?

Come on fellas. If you want to continue your argument, do it via PM.I'm not a moderator or anything, but I just want to help out our boy put the smack down on his buddies Cobra without having to scroll through pages of two peoples arguments.
Yeah Lloyd has some good stuff, AI is another good company to check out. I have Lloyd's stage 2 heads because I got a good deal on them, no complaints.
Like I said in my previous post, grab some N20 and show him what's up.
Then save up for a good heads/cam package.
Bottom line~ he has 413rwhp, that doesn't come cheap.
Your going to need the same amount to beat him and if n20 is out of the question your 2k will only take you to 340-355rwhp(cam,lts,etc). You need a new top end and a solid rearend to beat him.
Everyone has been telling you the same thing, there is no way your going to put together a 400rwhp car for 2k.
One thing I would be concerned about is you bottom end, if you have 70k 80k on it I would be afraid of a cam. Especially if your going to do heads. Good luck with your decision.

Just do the nitrous and call it good. You could easily do longtubes, CAI, DR's and a nitrous kit for less than 2 grand. Spraying a 150 shot on your car would easily put you around 400HP depending on what kit you get and such. If he is really putting down 400 RWHP then ask him for some dyno graphs or time slips.
The reason I say this is because I raced a supercharged GT (it wasn't a cobra but you still get the picture) that supposedly was putting down 435HP. I would hope my car put's down that much but I really don't know. Anyways, I raced him and raped him the whole way through the 1/4. Nitrous adds tons or torque and that is what is going to get you down the road fast. Just make sure you have some slicks so you don't sit at the line and spin while he walks away from you.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I've been out of town the past few days and haven't really been able to respond.
My car is totally stock, he has a CAI, magnaflow catback, 4.10's, vortech super charger, and his tires are crap. His quarter time is just above 13", he can't get traction until third gear. This scares him away from an off the line race so the best bet for racing him is rolling start on the highway.
Now that I finally see the math involved, I'm willing to go higher than 2k, probably in the 3-4k neighborhood, the only time I have to myself during the day is when I'm driving to and from IBM, about a 30 minute drive. Beating the pants off of the cobra and enjoying that drive is more important to me than refacing the cabinets in my house as per the ball and chain's request.

Basically you can add up the costs all you want on paper, but its going to end up costing more than you think.
