Re: 500+ Rwhp

Thank you. The only thing stopping it from being a true street car is the compression. Another member built a motor similar to this with about 10.5-1 and it makes the same power with the same heads although his heads are worked quite a bit more than mine. In terms of idle quality and driveability, I would put this up against many of the motors guys have in "street cars".

I think that 450-480 rwhp mark is about it for n/a LTx based motors on a budget. The head flow just ins't there without going big bucks.

solid roller this year.

next year hogan/dfi/afr's

but i am also gonna use n20 so im kinda cheating but i wonder whats the most power made from a lt1 block?

What kinda flow can you get out of ported Trickflows?

320-330CFM on a max effort. But watch out for the 62CC chambers.Depending on what ya got that may knock your compression in the head.

Re: 500+ Rwhp

I know I will not make 500rwhp, but we will se what ye old trickflows can do. Building a fully forged 383 (4340 crank, 6" H-beams, -5cc srp flat tops) with Lloyd ported trickflows, and the matching cam. We will just have to see the end of this month what it puts down with the cutouts open.

Re: 500+ Rwhp

So would the best/easiest bet for NA 500+ rwhp be a stroked LSX motor, given the flow potential of some of the new heads that are out/coming out?

I'd like to see that dyno chart.... especially if it's what I think it is.

Dam old guy, you don't need 330cfm to make 600hp even with a small cam. That's a really inefficent use of all that airflow to only get 600hp. 290cfm and a well matched setup can do it easy. 330cfm should make 660hp easy.

I am aiming for over 500 rwhp this year...well see.

But if I had to do it again I would have went boosted and saved a lot of money.

Re: 500+ Rwhp

Yeah it's alot easier to make 500+rwhp with a blower, trubo or n2o. I would say that around 450-470rwhp is the limit before getting redicuosly expensive and radical for a steetcar with a LTX based engine. But there are a couple people who have done 450rwhp inexpensively. Steve(Sar2k) built his stock bottomend LT1 with ported LT1 heads/intake and made 450rwhp thru a 4l60e which was very impressive and Gary's streetcar did 452rwhp (M6) with Joe O's AFR head/cam package with a 355" LT1. My car should make upwards of 450rwhp N/A and my setup is far from exotic or really expensive. Later Clint

Well let's see------
330 CFM from a "happy bench"--- minus 10% for a GOOD intake(most don't have those) minus another 3% for a screwed up CAI now ya have*drum roll please*287CFM that leaves ya in the 590FWHP range=531 to the tire with a M6. As I understood the original post it was 500+RWHP.
Besides I like to do it the easy way.

Re: 500+ Rwhp

why is it so easy for an ls1?
theres a local guy running a 408 with a hydrolic cam, head that flow less then 300 cfm and he's pushing 530

i know he has more ci, but his last combo 382 was still in the 500s

guess theres more then flow numbers.

Exactly. Sometimes I look at these LSx's and wonder what's the point of doing all this with my LT1 when dollar for dollar I could get more with a LSx project.

Re: 500+ Rwhp

Yeah LS motors have a intake that helps a ton, not like the LT intake. Why do you think I build single plane intakes for these things?

Larry, I dont have a happy bench so I guess thats where I'm coming from. I've seen motors with less than 270cfm make 600hp.... just depends how efficient the package is.

Bret

when does the lt1 intake become a restriction?
