Lightbulb 4 bolt splayed main caps for my le2/125hp n20 setup? ---

Would it be a good idea to fork over the extra $500+ for a 4 bolt main splayed cap setup on my le2/125hp n20 shot ( around 600hp crank )? Thanks ---

4 bolt mains are always a good idea if you can afford them.

Yes, the machine shop will do it when they are doing the rest of the engine. They will allign bore and hone it to make the new caps fit right.

I vote go for it. I did, I'd rather overbuild than underbuild, it costs more money to do the latter!

Definitly splay those main caps. Even if I was rebuilding the stock motor I would splay it. Build that sucker once and be done with it, cus ya never know what the future mite hold. I went with a set of Program (sp?) main caps, i think they were $175 or something? I forget, yea give them to your machine shop and then can align and hone them. They can also clearence your dipstick as some people have issues with the dipstick tube and the splayed main cap. I mean you can go all out and get a 4 bolt rear cap also, and center cap too. But most just do the center 3, you will be fine with and standard 3 cap main splay.

They are pretty pricey and you more than likley do not need them. Most people just do the center 3 like I said....but if you search aorund, I definitly saw that at "Programs" site, they are the ones that made my main caps.....correct my spelling guys as I cannot find it via google. But your not going to need them, splay the center 3 only, its what I did :-) I remeber my engine builder saying something about the oliver 4 bold splayed main caps are VERY strong, strong enough that they go through a few tips line honing the sucker. Just thought i'd put that in there for future search results.

EDIT:

Found the website: http://www.pro-gram.com/

Im building a 383 and going to put a 100-175 shot on it with, the 2 bolt main with arp bolts, theres many people putting 500+ to the wheels on the 2 bolt but its better to go with the splayed if you got the cash.

Ouch.... I'd replace the splayed bolts on those caps with some ARPs.

You don't need a center and rear cap in most instances and the rear is around $255 alone.
