396 pistons for a 6' rod?
396 pistons for a 6' rod?
Who makes pistons for a 396 with 6'rods? Im after about 11.5 compression, and a good forged piston. I already have the rods so i really dont have a choice on rods. Plus who makes the lightest weight crank?

Wit a 9.00 deck you are going to need a compression height (CH) of about 1.06 to go with 6 inch rods. It can be done, but it may not be the best idea. Depending on the rest of the engine, it may need to be a custom piston.
So why do you want the lightest weight 3.875 stroke crank? Certainly not to save money. How high do yo plan to spin this 396? What kind of heads?
If you have to design around existing rods, you might consider a 383 with 1.125 CH pistons. You have a number of good choices in non-custom pistons, and you will spend considerably less money.

Well i like lightweight stuff, and i was wanting all the cubes i could get. I got a 233/239 cam from combo, so 6500 is about the max. The heads will be 2.00 1.56 P&P and probably shaved depending on the piston. The block is 0 decked.

Cost of pistons? What's you budget for this engine? The difference between shelf and custom pistons, maybe $80-$100 as Rich said, isn't significant in your total budget.
IMO, you might consider getting professional help on the engine design, or are we just talking 'fantasy motor'?
Re: 396 pistons for a 6' rod?
lol no i had the engine done last year, im sorry i should have stated the b4.
I had my engine done last spring, i had it punched 30 over and decked as previous stated, i bought forged weisco pistons, a lw crank 3.48, and lw 6' rods. I shoulda stroked it then but i didnt. I have spun a bearing now and want to stroke it. I would like to use my 400 dollar rods. maby that will help. And no it isnt a fantasy engine i just dont kno alot with strokers

Re: 396 pistons for a 6' rod?
Well since we found a piston next question is did i mess up this plan by shaving the block the first time? The stock height is 9.0, the setup i cut my deck to was 9.30 then cut .027 and .029, if i went with this piston it would be 8.987. Would the piston stick out ruining this whole idea? I used the stroke/2 + ch + rod length=dh. If none of this made sense im sorry it is very late. If it doesnt least i learned how to calculate deck height.
